Well, the whirlwind of dance recital is finally complete. It was a wonderful recital today, and I think my blood pressure has returned to normal. I volunteered to be a mother helper this year... possibly just a one-time gig. I think I'm just too selfish to do it again... I just wanted to focus on Chloe and her special time, but found myself distracted with other less-well-behaved girls in her class.
This year Chloe did tap, ballet, and tumbling. She really came out of her shell just at the right time, and blossomed on stage today. She remembered to smile and did her best performance I'd seen all year. She was so proud of herself, which was so great to watch. Even in tumbling, when other little girls got messed up, she was able to focus on her own thing and work around people in the wrong place. And, while she has been timid with cartwheels all year, she really went for it today. She did such a great job and I had so much fun watching her!
Lucy took a parent-toddler dance class this year since she wasn't 3 years old yet. She towered over all the other 2-year-olds all year long, and her advanced gross motor skills didn't help either. The other moms all thought she was older, but really she's just a very coordinated giant child. :) She wasn't very excited when I told her she didn't get to dance on the stage during the big show, so she got to pick through Chloe's old costumes. She wore last year's Alice in Wonderland costume today as she cheered on Chloe from the audience (as well as some dancing in the aisle, I hear).
So now recital is done, and we can relax for Mother's Day tomorrow. I'm planning to sleep in as late as possible, but from the excitement on Chloe's face at bedtime tonight, I think she may have other plans in store for me. But all I really want is to have a wonderful family day tomorrow... and maybe a day without any sister-fights! :)
